We understand that the actual construction of a custom software system or system component may be a bit of a mystery to our clients. We strive to involve clients heavily in the early stages of Business Process Consulting and Application Design. Working as partners with our clients helps to ensure a strong foundation and comfort level for the success of the implementation phase. Based on the workflows, requirements, and designs defined during those early sessions, our developers build a functioning system that meets our client's expectations.

Each client's system is unique to its organizational requirements and the size of systems can vary greatly. TerpSys creates a timeline based on the client's need and the scope of the selected features. The implementation of a release of a system can run from weeks to months. Functionality for large systems is prioritized so that the development and delivery can occur in meaningful phases. This ensures that highest priority features are delivered early and our clients can begin to derive value from the system as soon as possible.

Areas in which we typically work to develop our client's technology tools include:

• ASP .NET 3.5+ Development

  ASP.NET is a Microsoft application framework that allows our developers to create systems that are stable, secure and fully functional in a web-based environment. What that means for our clients is that they can have a state of the art system that is built using proven technology and that functions with the familiarity of many commonly used web interfaces.

• Rich Internet Application (RIA) Development using Silverlight, ASP.NET AJAX, JavaScript and jQuery

  Our goal is to design and develop solutions that provide the end-user with the best possible experience that they can imagine. Our design process is based on a core philosophy that we refer to as User-centered Design. This means that as we design solutions, we design them in a manner that information is always available in an intuitive manner. Furthermore, it means that we apply the appropriate best practices and technologies (such as Silverlight, ASP.NET AJAX, JavaScript, and jQuery when applicable) in User Interface design. The result is that we produce applications with a high degree of usability, which means that users are able to achieve their specific goals easily, intuitively, and quickly -- leading to satisfaction and, ultimately, your success. Adoption of solutions across the organization is a critical factor that ensures the success of our projects. If the experience that your end-users have as they interact with the solution is positive, they will in turn understand the true value to the organization, and be advocates for the solution.

• Database Development & Migration

  TerpSys uses enterprise quality database products, suitable for storing your organization's mission critical data. We recommend Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 as a good value for our clients. However, we also offer Oracle database solutions at the preference and need of our clients. We can help you analyze the data in your legacy systems, and provide solutions to migrate that data into your new system environment.

• Enterprise Systems Integration

  Often, an enterprise system designed for the storage of large amounts of data does not fully meet an organization's tracking or data analysis needs. We have experience integrating smaller workflow or analytic based applications with larger data warehouse applications. Examples include:

  • A Time & Leave tracking system that takes data from PeopleSoft and makes complex PTO accrual calculations and manages time entry and reporting.
  • An Executive Dashboard with charts and graphs as well as a geographic graphical interface that allows for quick analysis of grant information pulled from a database of grant dollars awarded.
  • A Web-based Expense Reporting System hosted in Microsoft SharePoint that is integrated with Microsoft Dynamics GP.

• Report Development, including the use of SQL Server Reporting Services

  Most of our custom systems are built with a set of the most meaningful reports pre-configured for quick and consistent access to information. We can work with you to develop new reports, either for systems that we created or for your existing systems. We can even integrate data from multiple systems to create comprehensive analytic reports that provide management or executive level decision information, in just the way you need to see it.

  SQL Server Reporting Server is a Microsoft based technology that can be used to prepare and deliver a variety of interactive and printed reports. Many of the systems that we develop thake advantage of the capabilities provided by this technology.

• Application Maintenance

  One of the benefits of having your own system built to your specifications is the ability to modify the system as business needs evolve and grow. We generally deliver complete source code for systems upon completion, which clients can modify or extend as needed. However, we usually suggest creating a maintenance budget that can be used for general support as well as ongoing, small updates and changes identified through the use of the system.
