So Others Might Eat (SOME)
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of Washington, DC. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care. They help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.
Through partnerships and expanding comprehensive continuum of services, those in need have realized their full human potential. Everyone who wants a job has one; everyone has affordable housing, medical care and food. Everyone who wants addiction and mental health treatment receives it; everyone who needs literacy learns to read and to write.
Each day, SOME is restoring hope and dignity one person at a time.
In 2002, TerpSys designated SOME as our "plus one" organization. The TerpSys Community Service Committee organized groups to volunteer at SOME's kitchen. A group of ten TerpSys employees helped prepare and serve food, and help with clean-up after breakfast and lunch.
TerpSys also offers employees the opportunity to voluntarily donate money through payroll deduction. The donation is taken out of the volunteer's paycheck pre-tax, and given to SOME on an annual basis.
In addition, TerpSys donated web design services to create the SOME website.
