The The Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter provides information, counseling, and referral through a 24/7 toll-free Helpline; nearly 80 support groups throughout the region; education and community outreach; training programs for professional caregivers, and a Safe Return program that assists in the return of wandering memory-impaired persons to their loved ones. The Chapter's territory includes an estimated 80,000+ persons with Alzheimer's disease and 420,000 family members and caregivers. This is a pivotal time as the Chapter expands its reach and resources to meet the needs of the vastly growing population of those impacted by Alzheimer's as the Baby Boom generation approaches the age range of greatest risk for the disease. Alzheimer's is an insidious, fatal, and currently incurable disease that destroys precious memories, affects judgment and daily living, severs valuable bonds with friends and family, and robs a person of his or her very sense of self.

TerpSys has designated the Alzheimer's Association as one of its the three core charities. Since 1999, Team Turtle, comprised of TerpSys employees, family and friends, has participated in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. In addition, for the past four years Team Turtle has been involved in the Alzheimer's Association's Tour de Canal, a bike ride on the C&O Canal. In 2006, Team Turtle had over 100 people take part in the Memory Walk and over 40 riders trek the 184, 100, or 20 mile courses during the Tour de Canal.
